make up beauty 1 Beauty Make up Love

By Erica Rodriguez

There are soooo many great Make-up artist out there, and when it’s well done, the result is just Stunning !! One of the Masters of this art is definitely Sylvia Dell’ Orto but there also plenty of less known make up artist with great talent.  As you probably already figured out, we LOVE photography at TrendLand but we also review Stylists and Makeup & Hair maestros, and at the end you see that is what makes great photography: The Team! The team you work with is as important as the model or the choice of lighting or clothes, and when you see some amazing editorials, its a result of all this talent blending together to make perfect imagery. Make-up artist are definitely one of the important links needed to produce a brilliant shot. Here is a little compilation of Beauty/make-up shots that I love !

Yang Li’s Deconstructive Designs

designer yang li 600x559 Yang Lis Deconstructive Designs

Yang Li is an ambitious young designer we featured last year (see review here), currently in his last year at Central Saint Martins. I was pleasantly surprised, when I checked out his website, to discover how well it was designed and executed. The home page shown above is designed with conceptual logos that link into little design project books created by Li. There is some really cool stuff in there and tons of beautiful illustrations. From the butterfly book I choose to share with you the deconstruction of t-shirts concepts in which he shows you what you will need to create the t-shirts photographed. No time for getting bored, grab a pair of scissors and all the tees you can find at home, and get started!

TREND: The Pattern Mix

pattern mix mixte magazine 1 600x398 TREND: The Pattern Mix

Looks like another big Trend is coming our way: Its called the Pattern Mix: a mix of colors and pattern ( especially African ones) all worn together. So how do we do it? Simple. You mix different colors , patterns and fabrics. Consider wearing plaid or animal print with stripes, floral prints with stripes, polka dots or animal prints, and any of fall’s random patterns with animal prints or floral prints, as well. It is similar to a  Gypsy-Chic look. I Like it ! These two editorial show it pretty well:
Edito #1 from Mixte Magazine (Model: Kendra Spears )- Edito #2 from The Time Style (Model: Arlenis Sosa)

Borba Margo Accessory Collection

These decorative elements are set against the carefully considered bold geometric structures that are Borba Margo’s signature, creating a unique balance between minimalism and excess that is surely the aesthetic for today.

borga margo ss 09 01 600x400 Borba Margo Accessory Collection

Coming from a womenswear background designers/collaborators Anderson Borba DaSilva and Jessika Margo Goransson, of Borba Margo, bring something very new and unique to the accessories market. Acutely conscious of the female body as they design their collections, Borba Margo incorporates many techniques used in creating garments, which you can see throughout their ss09 collection, shown here. The collection is innovative and excessive, taking risks but prudent in all its decisions to make it absolutely versatile and most importantly wearable. Stay tuned for AW 09/10 collection review, coming in the next few days.

Tom Hines Photography

Another style of photography by Tom Hines; we can probably call it Hitchcock Fashion (obviously shot with film). This series is actually the lookbook for the F/W 09/10 campaign of fashion label Lorick New York (the 3 last images are from Safe Spring 09).   This is a perfect example of how important it is for brand to have a strong lookbook, first, people will remember it, and second, it will spread all over the web like brush fire….

Knitwear Dominatrix is Back!

10 1 600x485 Knitwear Dominatrix is Back!

We introduced you to Mark Fast when we reviewed his ss09 collection and praised him for winning the London Fashion Week New Gen Award for Autumn/winter 2009. Not a huge stretch in aesthetic and therefore equally impressive is his AW09/10 collection. As he continues to create his signature knitwear dominatrix I am patiently waiting an explosion of expression where knitwear meets cut and sew, for a range of silhouettes and the peak of avant-garde fashion.

Another great new menswear brand coming from Asia : Beyond Closet by Tae Young – I like his “School Diary” presentation for his SS09 collection a lot!

There are many upcoming trend references in his collections, especially (you will see it everywhere pretty soon) the Overall shorts for men, the backpacks, and the school teacher meets golfer look. His AW09/10 collection is also a great example of what will come next : Military School Class Look. I love it ! I would rock any of those pieces anytime !!

Katie Gallagher Futuristic Collection

katie gallagher collection 1 600x457 Katie Gallagher Futuristic Collection

Interesting construction work from Katie Gallagher – This NY based designer created some skin-colored corsets disguised as futuristic exoskeleton rib cages, Super-Spandex waistbands, and elastic straps keeping the fabric impenetrably tight, Gallagher presents us with a striking vision of cloistered sexuality—a cold, provoking parody of nakedness. I can definitely see a some inspiration from Gareth Pugh and Yohji Yamamoto in her design – I also really like her fashion illustrations, looks like she draw her model like zombies, interesting technique for selling her collection…

A Japanese Sensibility

mon tsuki ss09 collection 600x488 A Japanese Sensibility

We briefly introduced you to Mon Tsuki when we showed the urban preppy chic collection they designed for f/w 08/09, now here is a follow up for those that may have an appetite for quirky thematic design.  The label is designed by  Takehiro Nagasawa and Shintaro Fujikawa, nearly 20-year industry veterans, who represent Japan’s own fashion education system. The Tokyo Mode Institute graduates had mainly been focusing on womenswear until about 5 years ago when they introduced their mens collections. Since then they have been delivering mens collections full of color and generally drawing very direct infleunce from something they believe is trending. This season, ss09, is no different, with a collection title “Cycle Traditional”, they bring in as many elements of urban cycling as possible. There is definitly a strong reference to Tour de France, obvious with the hats and the color pallette. The collection definitly feels Japanese to in its sensibility to capture all the elements of a trend and recreate them. Few designers elsewhere have the nerve or design ethic to do things that way.

Skyskraper (a design agency based in London) are certainly making the most out of Pig Flu…

They have decided to make a clothing range which is inspired by media headlines, and this month the inspiration comes from “Swine Flu”.
