A while back I had the privilege of seeing Feist perform at the Dark Was the Night Charity concert at Radio City. She rocked everyone’s socks, as usual. But perhaps the most lovely song she sang that night was also the only cover, which she attributed to her “friend”, Kyle Field. I did a little research, and came to find that Kyle is a Portland bread musician who leads an experimental folk band called Little Wings. The songs are sweet and simple, but good! “Discovery sounds like a direct descendant of Daft Punk’s Discovery . There’s a little Postal Service, Janet Jackson, Hot Chip, and T-Pain mixed in, too.” Thanks Pitchfork, but when you start to compare a new band with five other incredibly successful acts that span decades and genres, it may be a kind of useless associatin, don’t ya think? It’s like, “Oh I think Janet Jackson once sang about having a crush so she must be an influence too.”
Do I sound bitter?
Discovery, the new group from Vampire Weekend’s keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij & Ra Ra Riot’s lead singer Wes Miles, blends tender pop crooning and the swirling synth of modern r&b. Shit is rad, romantic, and blissful. If you picture yourself riding in a convertible in slow-motion, or as a five year-old girl playing in the sprinklers in suburban Texas, it makes the music better. Full album, titled ‘LP,’ is due out in July on XL Recordings.

Ever since there was a confirmed statement on Topshop opening in NY, there has been a lot of buzz around Topshop in the states. Now that it has opened you see the buzz in effect every time you get near the store. Its 4-floors of madness can hardly compare to any retailers success at the moment. Jammed with teeny bopper shoppers to savvy fashion editors you get a peep of the fashion rainbow in full range. But what about our loyal H&M, who has been bringing us fast fashion all this time there was no Topshop at hand. H&M as always has responded well by creating a very tightly concepted collection that all the fashion bloggers have been dying over. The grungy, 90’s-biker-chic vibe compressed into an item based collection that will have girls splurging away is a brilliant move on their part. I love to see hyper concentrated stylist bound collections translated into fast fashion.
