Specify : The visual Search Engine

sepzify search visual engine 600x332 Specify : The visual Search Engine

You know how visual we are at TrendLand ! Especially with our unique interface or our Images page, you can tell that we are as more privileging the visual than the context ( at least i do!)  So when we find a cool visual search Engine, we are really excited !! Spezify was already online with their Beta version for a little while, but they finally launched their finale version 15 days ago – Spezify is a visual Search Engine by excellence, it browse the web like Google or Yahoo but they mixing all media types and make no difference between blogs, videos, Twitter and images. Everything communicates and helps building the bigger picture. They have a preference panel where you can narrow your search, one weird thing is they are not including Google – I guess its probably a question of rights as the Big Google dont like to share their results… So be sure to try it out and scroll down, right and left infinitely ! Have fun ! www.spzify.com

Guerra de la Paz

guerra de la paz 600x449 Guerra de la Paz

Cuban born and Miami based artists, Alain Guerra and Neraldo de la Paz created Guerra de la Paz. Its seems the creative duo loves to create colorful ‘textile sculptures’ and playing with textural layering. Their work is based on a combination of traditional disciplines and experimentation  with dimension and the use of unconventional materials. Its just sumptuous ! If you are in NY be sure to check their latest exhibition at Daneyal Mahmood Gallery

Regina Spektor: Dance Anthem of the 80’s

regina spektor far album cover myspace Song of the Day : [06/29]

Regina Spektor released her new album entitled “Far” a couple months ago. She worked with 5 different producers on this one, including Paul McCartney. The album maintains Regina’s signature charm, sincere lyrics and corky humor. Some great songs within the collection. ‘Dance Anthem of the 80’s’ is perhaps the most unique of the bunch. It shows some evolution from her last album. I also love ‘Time is All Around’, which is similar to Regina’s older sound. But then, it never really gets old.

Alphabet by Bela Borsodi

bela borsodi-alphabet-1

Well if you have not yet guessed, we are super fans of Bela Borsodi. This is the third consecutive month we have featured something of his esteemed collection. I am absolutely fascinated by this Trompe L’oeil series, titled “Alphabets”, playing on the negative space of brilliantly curated product shots. Despite the difference in scale and subjects this project makes me reminisce about one of my favorite works I ever featured, that of Varini’s Trompe L’oeil.

Mykromag – Black & white Goodness

Mykromag online magazine 600x429 Mykromag Black & white Goodness

Mykromag is great online magazine, very well edited and very Black & White! For this shoot, photographed by Paul Scala and styled by (Mykromag owner) Sonny Groo, they pulled Emilio de la Morena’s A/W 09, which is (normally) a really colorful and bright collection, and give them “the Mykromag treatment” (say Susie Bubble) – A beautiful black & white editorial! Great job guys !

Dunlin Launches Their First Work/Shop

dunlin store

All American Dunlin bags portray an absolute hobo chic aesthetic that many brands have tried to channel and horribly failed at. Founded in 2006 by Shiho Nagashima and Ramana Goldstein, Dunlin has established itself as one of fashion’s authentic new voices with their innovative designs, hand-finished leathers, and traditional artisan techniques. The artisan vibe is very much present in the aesthetic of their soon to open first work/shop, located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The renovation of the store was done by the designers themselves – with much of it finished by hand. The theme of the shop is right on with retail space trends, but theirs definitly feels authentic. An opening reception will be held this Saturday, June 27th if you want to be of the first to step foot in this quaint time capsule.

Local Natives : Airplanes

local natives

Here is some swirling folky music from another unsigned local LA band… this one conveniently with “local” in its name.  I’m proud to be the first person in the internet to call them the Fleet Foxes of LA.  Swoon to their soaring vocal harmonies and beautiful instrumentation; then go spread the gospel. You can check out Local Natives here.

Icons Never Die : MJ & Farrah Fawcett

icons never die - MJ and Farrah Fawcett

Today marks a day in history that few who are present will ever forget.  A large chunk of what we know as Americana has died today, on June 25th, 2009. I was so saddened by news of Farrah Fawcett’s death this morning, but I could have never in my wildest dreams have thought that in the middle of creating this tribute to her, the world’s most famous person/ The King of Pop – Michael Jackson, would have passed on as well. A truely tradgic day in our lives and pop culture history.

Farrah Fawcett was 62, when she passed today after a long fight with rectal cancer, at St John’s in Santa Monica. A true icon in fashion, style and feminity, Fawcett set trends in her time that will live forever as beauty standards for women worldwide. From the LA Times, “A winsome smile, tousled hair and unfettered sensuality were Farrah Fawcett’s trademarks as a sex symbol and 1970s TV star in “Charlie’s Angels. But as her life drew to a close, she captivated the public in a far different way: as a cancer patient who fought for, then surrendered, her treasured privacy to document her struggle with the disease and inspire others.” Her documentary aired on television on May 19, 2009, and if you have not had the chance to watch, “Farrah’s Story”, and you can stand to watch it you can find the details on IMDB.

Michael Jackson was 50 years old when he passed today from a cardiac arrest. While en route to the UCLA Medical Center, Jackson apparently stopped breathing. Jackson was originally reported in a coma but other sources mentioned that Jackson died. He died with his family surrounding him. This really came so suddenly! Everyone was anticipating his comeback tour scheduled to start next month in London, so to hear this news was ever so devastating. Jackson was a musical God and gave the whole world songs that will live forever. He is the quintessential icon whose life was in so many ways defined and led by and through the media. MJ was the worlds most successful and controversial celebrities.
