If you’re a David Lynch fan, you may know Julee Cruise from her musical appearances in Blue Velvet and most famously, in Twin Peaks. Still, her music goes unnoticed to most. I came across her album several years ago separately from Lynch’s introduction, but have revisited in in light of Halloween as I’ve been watching the Twin Peaks series. It reminded me of my love for her dreamy, retro sound. Her album Floating Into the Night was released in 1989, but it remains in the melancholy-music hall of fame. Listen to Twin Peaks theme, Falling below.

If Pippi Longstocking and Ingmar Bergman had a love child, it would be Mia Mäkilä. The Swedish artist scours our nightmares for inspiration, painting haunting childlike demons that would even make Tim Burton weep. Makila is particularly known for her Boschian (Hieronymus Bosch) style in her mixed media works, and she is inspired by movie directors such as Terry Gilliam, John Waters and Hitchcock, as well as 13th-17th century artists like Pieter Bruegel the elder, Hans Memling and Lucas Cranach. She is also involved in the European Lowbrow Art Movement.

David Lynch just realized the last campaign for Gucci Perfume – It looks a lot like the last scene from Inland Empire. First Time for Lynch to shot an advertising - it’s a chance for him to experiment a short visual atmosphere.
