What do you think Streetstyle photography is for? It is not only to see who is where and who wears what, but to analyze trends. In the past few years, but more specifically in the last year, streetstyle photography has been booming during Fashion weeks, from Paris to London, New York to Milan, now you have more photographers outsides the runways than inside…
It all started with celebrity streetstyle photographer The Sartorialist aka Scott Schuman who started to showcase his street finds on his blog in September 2005, and then… the others followed… Paparazzi of the unknown, they shoot models, editors, stylists or random people who have good or interesting style. All those pictures are called ‘Data’ in the trend world, data to analyze and read what’s coming next : details, colors, prints, cuts, accessories, ways of wearing, every single details is important. Trends agencies (like TrendLand’s friend FashionSnoop) have their own photographers traveling the world to shoot what’s cool and hot for the future seasons. And you can be sure that all those photographs are analyzed by all the designers from Marc Jacobs to H&M…I have compiled some cool shots from this Paris Fashion Week for your right here. For the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross on 17th November, Sotheby’s will auction some Louis Vuitton luggage for charity. Iconic photographer Annie Leibovitz and British artist Damien Hirst are just two guest designers creating their ultimate piece of Louis Vuitton luggage. (Leibovitz has designed a red-lined back pack filled with compartments to transport camera equipment.)
Along with Vuitton creative Director Marc Jacobs, who has created a travel trunk for his dogs to fly in luxury in the hold of a plane.
You may shudder at the thought, but you can’t deny it – big shoulders came back with a vengeance – it has been all about power dressing for the past few season, so Joan Collins, eat your heart out!
From New York to Milan, the catwalks unambiguously and unanimously presented the very best 21st Century spin on the 1980’s big exaggerated power shoulder. Tina Kalivas’s Fortune 2009 lookbook is filled with gorgeous tie-dyes and lacquer leathers, but you cannot miss those amplified shoulders popping up from the jackets and dresses. Mixed in among all the electric colours and the shiny bits of Marc Jacobs Spring 09 collection were peaked-shouldered black jackets and vests worn with wide-leg trousers cropped below the knee. Australian designer Illionaire were not even pretending to hide the strong 1980’s influences on their Fall/Winter 09 lookbook. The shoot and the power shoulders both reference the Mommie Dearest era. Even new Danish Design School graduate Anne-Sofie Madsen couldn’t resist adding some stunning height to her new looks.
And for those of us who can’t spot a shoulder pad without thinking of Dynasty, consider what Di Milo has to say: “[Big shoulders are] the closest we get to wings.”
We have compiled a gallery of runway, editorial and flashback inspirations of the Power Shoulders to archive some of the best examples of this ever-growing Trend. As with everything in fashion there are always the pioneers who introduce a trend 2 years before it spreads like a viral plague, in this case Margiela brought it back with a bang in F/W 2007 long before other designers began their interpretations.
As the American Summer wanes, Fall looks have undoubtedly begun to circulate the minds and mouths of the fashion world. Women having the majority of say in purchasing decisions is an undeniable fact, reflected clearly through the following shoot. Supermodels taking hold of this corporate city, embracing well-tailored fitted pieces matched with looser yet structured forms. A black ensemble is set adjacent to a full blown leopard print guise [which one would assume to clash but in fact manages to blend ever so tastefully]. A plain oversized neutral coat is accented with just a tinge of metallic peeking out from beneath and those unexpected silk bunny ears Marc Jacobs got everyone talking about. And, of course, jeweled neck pieces almost overwhelming in size couldn’t hurt either. ****** “It’s kind of Forties meets Eighties,” the young designer said after his concise runway show. “They are body-conscious clothes, but they also have an emotional element.”
A recipe for fashion stardom, is how I would describe Josep Altuzarra. With his ravishing looks and a sensibility beyond his 25 years, its no wonder his following include Carine and Julia Roitfeld, Julie Gilhart, Vanessa Traina, and Hana Soukupova ~ just to name a few first class fashionistas. The young designer is making the right kind of waves, building up the momentum in a subtle way! I’m sure that working for houses such as Givenchy, Proenza Schouler, and Marc Jacobs have taught the French native a few of his tricks, but his work bears a positively distinctive direction from the work of each of those designers. His monotonous color palette works in his favor to accentuate the intricacy of the construction and draping of this collection and is a great indication of his wisdom as a designer. I am very excited to see whats ahead.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs spring/summer campaign starring Daisy Lowe is fabulous. Shot by Juergen Teller, the model is nude and covered only by a sheet. These ads are a hot topic around fashion forums. They are not getting much criticism. I still like these pictures though. I must agree with the fact that Daisy Lowe is not a model and doesn’t have the features, but I don’t see a reason why she wouldn’t be able to get it right anyway. What do you think? Does sex sell? It sure does…

Founded by Marian Pejorskis. Inspiration for this season is drawn from Blade Runner, referencing Bronx and Kenyan tribal wear. The collection embodies the eccentrity and exuberant prints and candy colours from the 90s. The iconic detail of the collection is the application of large jewels on the pieces.
DIANA ORVING – SWEDEN
Diana Orving’s creations are characterized by layers and draped fabrics, resulting in a tailored look. Drawing inspiration from dance and movement these influences are evident in the fluid nature of her designs.
Once again Louis Vuitton collaborate with Artist Stephen Sprouse, after the success of the graffiti collection in 2001, Louis Vuitton and Sprouse recreate the graffiti print but this time on many more items : bags, sneakers, shoes, sunglasses as well as some clothing and some more accessories… Personally I dont like it too much, only the bags are cool, but the collection (especially the sneakers) are little bit passé , I mean its my personal taste – also the Marc Jacobs nude shot by Terry Richardson for for Harper’s Bazaar’s January issue are, let’s say… pretty powerful ! Colette, Original Fake and Marc flagship stores (US & London) are carrying them.Hopefully they still have it, because it were released on September 29th. ( sorry for the late news :s )
