Wow, how amazingly inspirational are the curvy Pin-ups of George Petty ! He was one of the top “cheesecake” illustrators of the 30s and 40s. He began his career with a series of cartoons featuring beautiful girls and their far from handsome beaus. His work coined the term “Petty Girls“ to describe the carefully airbrushed girls with brilliant smiles and sexy poses. SO kitsch and so beautiful, I always deeply loved Pin-ups !

Is there a Trend Spotting on the 1950’s era !? Think Stewardess, Nautical and Pin-ups… Looks like it, right ! We have been felling this Trend for a while now, and it start happening more and more… Look at the Tim Walker shoot of Lily Donaldson for Vogue UK in March and the Bon Ton Eccentrico for Flair Magazine by Chad Pitman (July 2009) for examples or even the 50s Hollywood Glamor by Steven Meisel. We did a 1950’s Stewardess inspired photoshoot last Monday, you will see the images pretty soon (once I spent hours retouching it…). You have to Trust us, its coming strong and Fashion is already adapting it as we speak…

While surfing the net I found an amazing compilation of photographs of celebrities shot as Pin-Ups. There was no information on the photographers and at first I thought it may have been one pin-up editorial, but after looking although through it you could recognize that there was a great distinction in style and light of the photography. The commonality was in the trend of shooting these onscreen icons as sexy 50’s pin-ups to allude to that desire and fantasy associated with the idea of the pin-up and many of these stars as sex icons.

American Pop Artist, Mel Ramos is famous for his 1960’s paintings of Pin-up calendars and magazines , I Love his series on the Pin-up, its just Amazing!! [little parentheses Pin-ups are arriving strong as a Trend in Fashion Inspiration boards]. His work is humorous as he often poses the women with large, out-of place objects and gives the paintings amusing titles ( AC Annie, Lola Cola ). His work can also be described as Superrealism.
