Mattel, the maker of Barbie, has partnered with Christian Louboutin for a multifaceted program under which the shoe designer will serve as a yearlong godfather to Barbie, not just rethinking her fashion wardrobe and physical attributes, but also art directing her in different lifelike situations.
An exhibition was organized last year at Milan’s Palazzo Reale, that delved inside the world of the of the late Italian designer Mila Schön through rare images and creations. The exhibition was a success that the Maison developed a book, entitled M is for Mila, that celebrates in style the 50th anniversary of the fashion house.

Measuring Mass Culture: like every day, 426,000 cell phones are discarded or 2 million plastic beverage bottles is the number used in the US every five minutes… He heard statistics like that and wondered “what, exactly, does that mean? What does that number look like?” His answer resulted in a unique photographic document that puts into perspective precisely how much is thrown away by otherwise responsible citizens.

Jordan’s slideshow and commentary, based on his highly lauded exhibits, takes audiences through his beautiful and elucidating photographs, documenting such issues as the environment, global warming and other social issues. Audiences will walk from Jordan’s presentation reflecting on the complex roles we all play, and the responsibilities we all hold, in the stewardship of our planet. Another collaboration for the 50th Anniversary of Barbie, This time its Colette with Jeremy Scott Barbie Collection and the “Barbie and Ken” exhibition by Karl Lagerfeld (March 9th-28th). For the occasion, a “Barbie room” will be installed on the first floor and the Lagerfeld picture will be sold on sold as silkscreen prints. So if you are a Fan or collector be sure to check it out!
The hype is undeniable, Barbie’s going to be celebrating her 50th year in true fashionista style, by having her own fashion show at New York Fashion Week on Saturday: Mattel is sponsoring Fashion Week this year for the anniversary with a show that includes 50 Barbie outfits by top designers, including Diane Von Furstenberg and Tommy Hilfiger as well as many other outstanding designers’ pieces….
