Wow! Paris Fashion Week SS 2010 was jammed packed with goodness, as to be expected from Paris. So many collections, so much detail, and so much range. Paris fashion week managed to combine the strengths of New York, London, and Milan all in one week this round. My favorite collections to narrow it down were Balenciaga, Balmain, Chloe & Celine (i’ll elaborate on the junction with the ~ and percent ~ in a moment), Gareth Pugh, Kenzo, Lanvin, McQueen, and Tim Hamilton. But all the designers and looks featured here were the best of Paris fashion week so open your eyes and enjoy the edit that took days and days to produce. Continue reading below…

For the Love of Fashion

I was introduced to this Luxirare recently and have had a great time exploring the range of creativity present on the beautifully curated site. I can not really imagine a marriage of two more fitting things than fashion and food and to see them served up in this way brings light to my world. Featured here is an outfit created by the faceless gal behind Luxirare. She created this mesh two-piece ensemble to compliment the Margiela jacket, shown here as well, as a result of having nothing suiting to wear it with. Not a bad spurt of creativity if you ask me. I have only highlighted one of her garments but you should not miss Luxirare’s Michael Jackson Memoribilia as well as other pieces you can see on the site.
As for the Gastronomic goodness I have highlighted a range of Luxirare’s edible goods to give you a better idea of the entire aesthetic.

:::Power Shoulders on the Runway:::

You may shudder at the thought, but you can’t deny it – big shoulders came back with a vengeance – it has been all about power dressing for the past few season, so Joan Collins, eat your heart out!
From New York to Milan, the catwalks unambiguously and unanimously presented the very best 21st Century spin on the 1980’s big exaggerated power shoulder. Tina Kalivas’s Fortune 2009 lookbook is filled with gorgeous tie-dyes and lacquer leathers, but you cannot miss those amplified shoulders popping up from the jackets and dresses. Mixed in among all the electric colours and the shiny bits of Marc Jacobs Spring 09 collection were peaked-shouldered black jackets and vests worn with wide-leg trousers cropped below the knee. Australian designer Illionaire were not even pretending to hide the strong 1980’s influences on their Fall/Winter 09 lookbook. The shoot and the power shoulders both reference the Mommie Dearest era. Even new Danish Design School graduate Anne-Sofie Madsen couldn’t resist adding some stunning height to her new looks.
And for those of us who can’t spot a shoulder pad without thinking of Dynasty, consider what Di Milo has to say: “[Big shoulders are] the closest we get to wings.”
We have compiled a gallery of runway, editorial and flashback inspirations of the Power Shoulders to archive some of the best examples of this ever-growing Trend. As with everything in fashion there are always the pioneers who introduce a trend 2 years before it spreads like a viral plague, in this case Margiela brought it back with a bang in F/W 2007 long before other designers began their interpretations.

Maison Martin Margiela has always been non-conformist, from their Runways to their collection and ofcourse their sunglasses. We reviewed ‘L’incognito’ a while ago, and now here are their last Visor Sunglasses from the F/W 09-010 Collection – The single lens design is, somehow, comparable to aviators with a Margiela touch! Atypical, playful and unique – you can already buy them over at Colette for $550 !

THE master of concepts, THE fashion artisan and THE hidden identity of Margiela make each collection’s delivery one of the most highly anticipated in the industry. For Autumn/Winter 09 Martin Margiela did a very simple rooftop runway, overlooking the Eiffel Tower. There is absolutely no calling to make a huge runway production with his collections. The garments are so intriquite – from their conception to the weeks and perhaps months of work which go into each piece – that a quick walk by can hardly satisfy a fashion lovers appetite, so there should be nothing to obstruct those few moments of praise. It’s the lingering after taste that makes him such an fashion icon, leaving images in our mind that can sparsely be replaced.

Creative stylists, Ben Gregory and Dean Beavis, work together, under the name Gregory Dean, to merge hair with art. Their wealth of talent, original ideas and eye for details has enabled them to create some truly amazing styles for editorial, catwalk and film. Here I have selected a group of their most eccentric works of art. Perhaps these hair dresses were an inspiration to Margiela’s hair coats from 2 seasons ago.
