CTRL SS10 LOOKBOOK

CTRL SS10 1-1

CyanaTrendLand [via Alaia Izabela] provides the first internet leak of CTRL’s SS10 collection. The lookbook is incredibly large [at around 112 pages, no joke] but the colors, styling, photography, and models keep you hungrily flipping right through to the very end. Abundant are subtle acid wash denims in coral and black, as well as cropped and non-cropped jeans in plain black or white for both women and men.

George Petty – Curvy Pin-up from 1947

george petty curvy pin up 600x814 George Petty Curvy Pin up from 1947

Wow, how amazingly inspirational are the curvy Pin-ups of George Petty ! He was one of the top “cheesecake” illustrators of the 30s and 40s. He began his career with a series of cartoons featuring beautiful girls and their far from handsome beaus. His work coined the term “Petty Girls to describe the carefully airbrushed girls with brilliant smiles and sexy poses. SO kitsch and so beautiful, I always deeply loved Pin-ups !

Oxford’s 411

10 Oxfords 411

After a visit from Esquivel owner and designer, George Esquivel, the Vogue girls were enamored by his FW 09/10 Collection of oxfords and got inspired to do a mini story on the best of upcoming oxford’s and the do’s and don’t of wearing each style. Here are the four rules they set before you:

10 3 Oxfords 411

“The nude-blush lace is the epitome of Victorian romanticism,” Herman says. “I’d wear these in the evening with a YSL tux or just a plain black slip dress.” Chrisitan Louboutin’s Fred satin-and-lace flat, $955; christianlouboutin.com

1. “Putting flat lace-ups with a wide-leg trouser or jean is a very dated way to wear them,” says Jane Herman, Fashion Writer. “Instead, try a cropped pant.”
2. “This should not be a Wall Street look,” states Filipa Fino, Senior Accessories Editor. “Let the men wear them with suits. Women should wear them with feminine pieces.”

Fantasy of the 50’s Pin-Up

500full zooey deschanel Fantasy of the 50s Pin Up

Zooey Deschanel

While surfing the net I found an amazing compilation of photographs of celebrities shot as Pin-Ups. There was no information on the photographers and at first I thought it may have been one pin-up editorial, but after looking although through it you could recognize that there was a great distinction in style and light of the photography. The commonality was in the trend of shooting these onscreen icons as sexy 50’s pin-ups to allude to that desire and fantasy associated with the idea of the pin-up and many of these stars as sex icons.

Serial Cut Throat Design

fresher08 def ok Serial Cut Throat Design

This is an ad that  Madrid based, creative studio Serial Cut did for the UK newspaper The Guardian.  “The Fresher is a supplement for University students included within the pages of The Guardian every year. This advertisement is representative of a student’s lifestyle—flat sharing and the endless stack of dirty dishes. The bodycopy is wedged in between the plates and crockery representing many of the topics of modern day students–”having a hangover” or “Eating beans”–in a ironic way, mixing 3D with photographic techniques.”

I love this ad as well as most of their work. A lot of Continue Reading

Pin-Up by Mel Ramos

American Pop Artist, Mel Ramos is famous for his 1960’s paintings of Pin-up calendars and magazines , I Love his series on the Pin-up, its just Amazing!! [little parentheses Pin-ups are arriving strong as a Trend in Fashion Inspiration boards]. His work is humorous as he often poses the women with large, out-of place objects and gives the paintings amusing titles ( AC Annie, Lola Cola ). His work can also be described as Superrealism.

Anything but Ordinary

Fashionable Habits

Fashionable Habits

Hi everyone! I’m the new guest blogger at Cyana TrendLand. I’ve had my own fashion blog for almost a year now and I love it. I eat, sleep and breathe fashion, so that’s practically what I’ll be blogging about. I’m a chain smoker, compulsive shopper and I love everything the fashion industry has to offer and I love everything fashionable. There’s not much in this world which I hate, but the mainstream, that I can’t handle. I try to be anything but ordinary. I guess that’s what we all fear isn’t it, to be ordinary?
We can interpret fashion, what we see on the catwalk and in the fashion magazines and make it our own.
Fashion isn’t just what you get served every six months by today’s leading designer houses or what the fashion magazines glorifies. There’s the models, the It girls, the style icons, the celebrities, fashion bloggers and street style blogs who all contribute to shaping, inspiring and defining the fashion industry.

Would you be smoking Marlboro Light if it wasn’t for Carrie Bradshaw? Would you be drinking cappuccinos of paper cups if it wasn’t for Mary-Kate Olsen? Would you be carrying around your newly bought fashion magazine, even though you have a bag to put it in, if it wasn’t for Carine Roitfeld? The truth is that Manolo would’nt necessarily have been such a “common” term as it is today if it wasn’t for the four girls in Sex and the City. They made Manolo Blanik a known and fashionable name.
I certainly won’t smoke any other cigarette but Marlboro Light and if I get the opportunity I would choose Starbucks just so that I could feel a little more fashionable. You would think that a luxurious hand bag and a pair of high heels would do just the trick? Today, the accessories are just as important. Trend objects such as these, often created by celebrities, come and go, but they’ll make us feel some what more fashionable at the time and a few steps closer to the Manolo Blaniks.
I guess we’re all a bit ordinary?
