StreetStyle Photography – Can you read the Trends ?

streetstyle photography 600x899 StreetStyle Photography Can you read the Trends ?

What do you think Streetstyle photography is for? It is not only to see who is where and who wears what, but to analyze trends. In the past few years, but more specifically in the last year, streetstyle photography has been booming during Fashion weeks, from Paris to London, New York to Milan, now you have more photographers outsides the runways than inside…

streetstyle photography 1 600x899 StreetStyle Photography Can you read the Trends ?

It all started with celebrity streetstyle photographer The Sartorialist aka Scott Schuman who started to showcase his street finds on his blog in September 2005, and then… the others followed… Paparazzi of the unknown, they shoot models, editors, stylists or random people who have good or interesting style. All those pictures are called ‘Data’ in the trend world, data to analyze and read what’s coming next : details, colors, prints, cuts, accessories, ways of wearing, every single details is important. Trends agencies (like TrendLand’s friend FashionSnoop) have their own photographers traveling the world to shoot what’s cool and hot for the future seasons. And you can be sure that all those photographs are analyzed by all the designers from Marc Jacobs to H&M…I have compiled some cool shots from this Paris Fashion Week for your right here. So can you read the Trends?

Power Shoulders Trend Going Strong

:::Power Shoulders on the Runway:::

Margiela-Fall Winter 2007-Power Shoulders Trend-2

You may shudder at the thought, but you can’t deny it – big shoulders came back with a vengeance – it has been all about power dressing for the past few season, so Joan Collins, eat your heart out!

From New York to Milan, the catwalks unambiguously and unanimously presented the very best 21st Century spin on the 1980’s big exaggerated power shoulder. Tina Kalivas’s Fortune 2009 lookbook is filled with gorgeous tie-dyes and lacquer leathers, but you cannot miss those amplified shoulders popping up from the jackets and dresses. Mixed in among all the electric colours and the shiny bits of Marc Jacobs Spring 09 collection were peaked-shouldered black jackets and vests worn with wide-leg trousers cropped below the knee. Australian designer Illionaire were not even pretending to hide the strong 1980’s influences on their Fall/Winter 09 lookbook. The shoot and the power shoulders both reference the Mommie Dearest era. Even new Danish Design School graduate Anne-Sofie Madsen couldn’t resist adding some stunning height to her new looks.

And for those of us who can’t spot a shoulder pad without thinking of Dynasty, consider what Di Milo has to say: “[Big shoulders are] the closest we get to wings.”

We have compiled a gallery of runway, editorial and flashback inspirations of the Power Shoulders to archive some of the best examples of this ever-growing Trend. As with everything in fashion there are always the pioneers who introduce a trend 2 years before it spreads like a viral plague, in this case Margiela brought it back with a bang in F/W 2007 long before other designers began their interpretations.

SuperModels SuperNaturals by Peter Lindbergh

supermodels supernaturals by peter lindbergh 1 SuperModels SuperNaturals by Peter Lindbergh

After his covers for  French Elle with the ‘no make-up’ shoot, its Peter Lindbergh again who shot Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford and more, in ‘SuperModels SuperNaturals’ for the issue of Harper’s Bazaar September 2009. We told you a little while ago that the trend in retouching was to get as natural as possible, so it looks that the trend is now expanding to the photoshoot itself – and it looks great ! It’s also true that its the group of people in the world who need the least retouching to begin with. Lindbergh told the Times in May, “Heartless retouching should not be the chosen tool to represent women in the beginning of this century.” No retouching, no retouching; these images still went into the hands of Pascal Dangin and he at least cleaned them up and did some color correcting, that’s for sure!  See Full Editorial on Paper Mode

Dunlin Launches Their First Work/Shop

dunlin store

All American Dunlin bags portray an absolute hobo chic aesthetic that many brands have tried to channel and horribly failed at. Founded in 2006 by Shiho Nagashima and Ramana Goldstein, Dunlin has established itself as one of fashion’s authentic new voices with their innovative designs, hand-finished leathers, and traditional artisan techniques. The artisan vibe is very much present in the aesthetic of their soon to open first work/shop, located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The renovation of the store was done by the designers themselves – with much of it finished by hand. The theme of the shop is right on with retail space trends, but theirs definitly feels authentic. An opening reception will be held this Saturday, June 27th if you want to be of the first to step foot in this quaint time capsule.

The Sheer or Transparent Trend

Sheer trend 2009 The Sheer or Transparent Trend

55690497Sheer Trend, Transparency Trend or See-trough Trend is hot for this summer ! Sheer fabric is certainly nothing new, but this Spring’s looks gave way to downright see-through fabrics. Although some of the sheerness can be layered away. When styled in the correct way it can be very feminine and sexy, yet quite demure at the same time. Since this trend is all about the fabric, there is multiple ways of wearing it: tight sheer pieces, layers, pretty tops, floaty dresses and coats, to just a simple piece around the neck or on your arm. So Have fun in Sheers !

Vintage Coke Can Design

vintage coke can design 8

How cool, retro and pop are these vintage Coke Cans!! Just ffffound them randomly and checked out the article from inspiredology where this beautiful collection was offered to us. ” These can designs are a great example of how some design styles never really go out of style. A few of these designs look slightly dated, yet others look as though they could have been released last week. ” I pretty much agree with them, and also if Coca Cola designers see these, they will probably release some cool retro designed cans in the next few months… Wanna  bet?

Oxford’s 411

10 Oxfords 411

After a visit from Esquivel owner and designer, George Esquivel, the Vogue girls were enamored by his FW 09/10 Collection of oxfords and got inspired to do a mini story on the best of upcoming oxford’s and the do’s and don’t of wearing each style. Here are the four rules they set before you:

10 3 Oxfords 411

“The nude-blush lace is the epitome of Victorian romanticism,” Herman says. “I’d wear these in the evening with a YSL tux or just a plain black slip dress.” Chrisitan Louboutin’s Fred satin-and-lace flat, $955; christianlouboutin.com

1. “Putting flat lace-ups with a wide-leg trouser or jean is a very dated way to wear them,” says Jane Herman, Fashion Writer. “Instead, try a cropped pant.”
2. “This should not be a Wall Street look,” states Filipa Fino, Senior Accessories Editor. “Let the men wear them with suits. Women should wear them with feminine pieces.”
