In an extraordinary collaboration, Louis Vuitton, the ultimate French luxury brand, and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, the ultimate fashion rebel, will open a joint Tokyo store in September – an ephemeral three-month space where six one-off bags, designed by Kawakubo in the LV monogram pattern, can be ordered by shoppers. This will take place in the Omotesando Commes Des Shop. Kawakubo has re-designed the entire Comme des Garcons store on Kottodori, Omotesando for the Vuitton project. Carcelle says that LV is investing in the store, and that any financial profits will be divided.

I don’t really know how I feel about Henrik Vibskov’s Mens SS09 Collection, except that I am not as excited as usual. His show concept, “The Tent City”, is definitely fabulous and original as usual. There are definitely great pieces throughout the collection but the styling really does not set me free.

The British Fashion Council today announces that designers Christopher Kane, Erdem, Marios Schwab and Roksanda Ilincic have been chosen to receive British Fashion Council Fashion Forward sponsorship.
The scheme, established two years ago, provides financial support to UK-based designers who are in the early stages of developing their business and have already established a profile at London Fashion Week. The award, partly supported this season by the London Development Agency, consists of a substantial cash prize, to be used towards producing an on-schedule catwalk show at London Fashion Week, and has been previously won by Giles Deacon, Jonathan Saunders, Richard Nicoll, Jens Laugesen and Sinha-Stanic. Christopher Kane, Erdem and Marios Schwab are all being awarded Fashion Forward sponsorship for the first-time. Roksanda Ilincic is a recipient for the second time.

We ended the week with Stefano Pilati’s experimental video for the YSL SS09 collection for men. And I’d like to start the week with with a close up preview on the specific looks and styling of the same collection. This collection can be described as urban literati meets royal grunge.

I cant say I had some deep connection to the Chanel Winter 2008/2009 Haute Couture Collection. Nothing quite hit the spot for me. But as always Karl Lagerfeld was able to deliver a beautiful rotating presentation at the Grand Palais in Paris.

I love mens fashion. There is a boundary that a designer is faced with in menswear that is not so present in womens wear. No matter how over the top or designed some garments are there will always be the women for it, but menswear is different. Its all about color and fit.
