Cyana Trendland is confident to name Lara Stone Model of the Year for 2008. I have been noticing Lara everywhere that matters for a year now and I love her more and more each time. There is something very nostalgic to me about her look, its sends me back to the 70’s , and then back to the 90’s and at the same time it is so strong today. Her gap and actually quite a bit about her remind me of Vanessa Paradis and her raw and limitless sensibility with the camera of Kate Moss. Stone entered the Elite Model Look contest in 1999, as a 15-year-old. Although she didn’t win, she did impress Elite execs and was signed to the Elite Modeling Agency nonetheless. After years of working as a struggling model, her career took a positive turn when she managed to get signed by IMG in 2006. Soon after, she opened the Givenchy haute couture show in Paris and she has been a fashion frontrunner ever since.

She is currently the face of MaxMara, Sisley and Givenchy. She has walked shows for Louis Vuitton, Lanvin, Miu Miu, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Karl Lagerfeld, Missoni, Emanuel Ungaro and others. She had campaigns with Calvin Klein Make-Up, H&M, Belstaff and Givenchy. She was on the cover of Japanese Vogue in March 2005, French ELLE in May 2006, French Vogue in April 2006 ,Danish ELLE in August 2006, Italian Vogue in December 2007 and again for French Vogue in March 2008.

She is one of the 10 new models to watch, according to Vogue. She was considered the best model in 2006 by MODTV and the best model in the Fall 2007 season by FashionTV. She was featured on the ELLE article “Supermodel Generation 2006″, along with Jessica Stam, Gemma Ward, Hilary Rhoda and Natasha Poly.

She was number 1 in the First Faces Haute Couture Fall 2006, First Faces Spring 2007 and First Faces Fall 2007 Countdowns from FashionTV.

She is currently the first face of the Givenchy Haute Couture shows.

After the other nights 20 minute discussion with my gals about Carrie Bradshaw’s favorite shoes in the movie I felt it necessary to put all assumptions aside. So I’m here to confirm that yes those were Dior, Extreme Gladiator Platform shoes, that she wore in all our favorite scenes of her. She even wore them in a silverish color with her wedding dress designed by Vivien Westwood. If you have not yet gone on a rampage for them, let me just inform you that they are from the fall 08 collection, so they are unavailable anywhere, but stores do seem to be taking special orders. They will be going for $770, and the damn copy cat master, Steve Madden, is cashing on the rage before the real thing is even available. United Colors of Benetton has always carried the title one of the strongest campaigns because they embrace diversity and fuse it with extremely strong visual imagery without being pretentious or cheesy. I love the styling and direction of these 2 photographs from their current collection.

So its finally summertime and all I can think is beach. Monday comes and I start to plan what will be the best day to ditch work and hit PCH. Weekends just arent enough! Times really havent changed too much, I mean no matter how old you are and how important your attendance is, there are certain distractions that just cant be helped.

With that said, I have been dreaming about the best summer parties possible. Its pretty tricky because in LA the beach clubs run the resorty catered beachlife to the point that if you are not apart of it you can not eat, drink, smoke, get naked, NOTHING! And what kind of beach day is it if you cant indulge in EVERYTHING!

Puppets Fashion Designer

One of the best Fashion Designer / Couturier : Yves Saint Laurent left us yesterday June 1st at the age of 71 (11pm Paris time). WWD reports the designer died of brain cancer.

In 1957, the Algerian-born Saint Laurent became the head designer of Christian Dior, making the line famous for his trapeze silhouette. In 1960, he was drafted into the military, setting off a lifelong battle with nerves and depression.

In 1962, the pair launched the Rive Gauche collection, which was famous for its pantsuits and tuxedo and smoking jackets. Saint Laurent sold the rights to his company to Gucci Group in 1999 and retired in 2002.

It’s said that friction between , Gucci’s then creative director, and Saint Laurent was one of the main reasons for his retirement…

Saint Laurent’s funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Paris at the Eglise Saint-Roch at 296 Rue Saint Honoré. French president Nicolas Sarkozy is expected to attend. After the funeral, Saint Laurent’s ashes will be sent to his famous Majorelle Garden in Marrakech.

And this time Miu Miu really dug deep into a forgotten treasure. Here’s Scarlett Johansson in the Italian edition of GQ. Now as you can see, the focus of the photoshoot is her lips. Personally, if I had the chance to photograph Scarlett, I’d be focusing on something else other than her lips, which I still think are pretty damn sexy mind you, just not as sexy as, let’s say, her monster cleavage. Martin Margiela has been called the J. D. Salinger of the fashion world, and rightly so — he refuses to be photographed and will only be interviewed by fax. He won’t even put his name on his clothes, branding them instead with a blank label.

Margiela is perhaps the most underexposed designer around. But, in another way, he’s continually overexposed, as his collections routinely reveal the designer’s techniques and interests in their very construction. Bearing visible stitches, exposed hems, tailor’s markings, and external shoulder pads, his collections never fail to both shock and delight.

Margiela was born in Belgium in 1957. Early in his career, he became part of the Antwerp Six, an important fashion group whose other members included Dries van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, and Walter Van Beirendonck. In 1984 he joined Jean-Paul Gaultier’s design team, an experience that would profoundly shape his fashion sense.

Leaving Gaultier in 1988, Margiela launched his own label, which soon became known for its stand-out, theme-oriented collections. His “Flat Collection” moved sleeves and armholes to the front, so garments would lie perfectly flat when not worn. His 1996 “Photoprint Collection” consisted of crepe garments printed with images of fur coats and heavy sweaters. Other collections have used broken dishes and bacterial mold; still others have featured no new designs, only favorite pieces from previous collections that have all been re-dyed gray. Margiela always puts on a show, using vacant lots and old subway cars as runways, and marionettes and hangers as models.

In 1997, Margiela was hired to design the women’s ready-to-wear line for Hermès. His first Hermès collection proved he could color inside the lines when required to; it was as horsy and conservative as Hermès could wish. With his own label, however, Margiela remains firmly planted in the avant-garde.
