In 1955 Madame Coco Chanel launched the iconic, quilted ‘it’ bag 2.55. Now, fifty-three years later, Chanel have decided to make the bag the center of attention once again, namely the center of a traveling exhibition entitled Chanel Mobile Art. Twenty international contemporary artists have reinterpreted the classic Chanel hand bag and designed everything from a gold quilted guitar-shaped shoulder bag to a giant 2.55 lying thrown on the floor. The exhibition opened in Hong Kong in a futuristic, curved glass pavillion designed by Zaha Hadid, which was the first stop of a two-year world tour, where the artists have smoothened the fine lines between fashion design and art. “We don’t need art, but we cannot live without it,” said Karl Lagerfeld at the opening of Chanel’s Mobile Art pavilion in New York City’s Central Park. The exhibition will move on to cities like London, Moscow and Paris.

As if Wonderland Wallpaper isn’t fun enough, I stumbled upon a delightful light-emitting invention from product designer Jonas Sampson. The paper will contain LED lights in any conceivable design. The concealed light display turns on a few moments after a person enters the room.
Not to get mushy on you, but how romantical could this get? Imagine an entire hotel suite lit up like the galaxy, a princess castle for a little girl or a safari adventure trapped in the wall a’la Jumanji. What about a freaky haunted house where decaying corpses flash for only a split moment? Or if you could choreograph several different circuits of LED, you might create a glowing animation (for the record, that’s my ingenious concept.)

As a kid, I always had a hard time describing where I lived to friends. Our cul-de-sac didn’t have much of a recognizable landmark. The following structure designed by the Japanese duo Torafu has no problem with the recognition factor. This unique one story structure located in Yokohama, Japan resembles that of a chip off the Fortress of Solitude. The concrete structure’s interior bears the look of a gallery with flat white walls throughout the house. The roof lighting system pulls the airy tall ceilings and flat white walls together and fills the cabin with calming natural light.

Breaking the monotony of the G-Shock revolution in the US, Toy Watch is making a hit with these florescent time pieces. These Italian range watches, ironically dubbed the “Toy Watch” has many more collections within the family name but the FLUO and NEWSTYLE lines look mighty fine. See the entire line here.

Marcio Kogan, a 56 year old Brazilian architect strikes once again, designing a very compelling landmark in Brazil. As you can follow with the images below, he has a very good aesthetic eye for composition, materials and proportion.
German design mind, Tom Hanke at Surrielien will custom-warp your wallpaper around art, lamps, doors and architecture details. The psycho-tropic results have a deliciously Dali appeal. However, one may hesitate to hit the hookah too hard in your newly striped room…
Dan sent me a link to this site after his own artsy abode was profiled by ApartmentTherapy…
The site: Interior design ideas courtesy of actual humans (not Philippe Starck’s budget), kinda voyeur-tastic because you can snoop different spaces and preview color palettes without sweating paint samples… Read the full story
I always liked the little Lacoste croc. Inspired by the simplicity and placement, Design Rehab released a limited quantity of these V-necks. These classy, fitted white V-necks come with a 1” embroidered patch on left chest and are available in mens & women sizes. Only 150 pieces were put into production and will be accompanied with a Design Rehab package of stickers and pins in tandem to build awareness for The Healthy Hustle.
As if Beckerman’s sublime Victorian remix, the Corian-material tete-a-tete chair wasn’t AMEX worthy enough, there’s also the yummy Lollipop Table…
Super cool Poster from artist / Illustrator Bob Staake

Our Legacy has been around for the past two years, but unfortunately it is super rare to find in the US. You can see their Spring 08 collection on their website, beautiful cuts and details. Our Legacy is a kind of Scandinavian minimalism that is very hot right now worldwide.
We’ve been talking about it for a while and as we told you 3 months ago the floral prints are now ON !
The Balenciaga Ads speak for themselves, floral, bold and powerful; these dresses are for not woman without a strong personal-identity.
Society for Rational Dress, notably one of the best brands to come out of LA in the past 3 years has been able to maintain its integrity and aesthetic since designer Corinne Grassini’s launched in 2005. After studying pattern making at Central Saint Martins in London Grassini moved to LA to start her brand, which initially consisted of leather shoes, than bags, and now a full collection of well tailored but simultaneously flowy and unrestrictive clothing dressed with thick leather trims and heavy duty hardware. Here is a sneak peak at her Spring 08 Collection. For full preview and access to archive of collections visit Society for Rational Dress.

Philips is going through a complete makeover. I used to think Philips was just another t.v. company, but you must visit their Design Probes Project, the aim of understanding lifestyle post 2020. One of their cool projects ( in addition to projects concerning tattoos and jewelry) is called Skin: Dresses “which examines the future integration of sensitive materials in the area of emotional sensing – the shift from ‘ intelligent’ to ‘sensitive’ products and technologies.” These Bubelle dresses are composed of two layers, the inner layer has biometric sensors that pick up a person’s emotions and projects them in colors onto the second layer, the outer textile. The dress also changes color according to our emotional state. Like a mood ring, but a mood dress.
The shift from intelligent to sensitive…really interesting concepts they are playing with at Philips. Yes, the way we dress is first and foremost dictated by our mood and Philips is taking our emotive dressing to a future level. Susie Bubble ( whom I adore for her camera-in-her-face-as-she-styles-outfits-btw Happy Birthday Susie!!!) asks “Do I want everybody in the world watching me feel either elation, embarrassment, anger or attraction as I swan around in this Bubelle dress on the streets…”
I agree with her, I definitely don’t need the world to know how moody I really am, BUT conceptually I love what Philips is doing to blend fashion and technology, an area that we are seeing merge more and more.
Kate Moss graces the ads for Donna Karan, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot. Karan’s designer wares are shown off on the street of LA transformed into Havana, Cuba.
For Fall 2007, Jen Kao focuses sophisticated high-end wear packed with street credibility. Detail and functionality are the core for this designer. Her individual pieces are adjustable, in that the wearer can change shape with their mood.
Young Belgium designer Peter Bertcsh just won the Festival de Hyères, with jury such as Christian Lacroix, Kim Jones and many more… Some of the jury thought that he we too handsome and that his collection was too perfect ! Funny…
We love his collection ” half plant, half human ”
You can find the runway show pictures on his page at the Antwerp Fashion School
Believe it or not, the humble bathroom/restroom is the new mecca for design. All over the world leading designers are transforming aesthetically pleasing places for people to pee, pooh and, well, be pampered, all in the name of making the daily commute to the restroom a little less dreary. I always loved the restroom / toilets design - kinda kinky
-Open your eyes every time you going to fancy clubs, restaurant and Hotels…

We just spotted our friend Louis Marie Castelbajac, son of fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, heading the front of Band of Outsiders SS ‘08 line. This line focuses on authoritarian male dressing, using traditional Yankee wear with a modern and delicate spin. Scott Sternberg, the head of Band of Outsiders, is currently nominated for CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award.

Normally North Face doesn’t really represent the type of fashion we love at Cyana Lab. North Face is known for the durability and warmth of their clothes, but not so much the design. However, when I visited North Face, I was impressed with their new fall collection for men and women. I absolutely love their dark, gun-metal gray colors, and their sleeker, more sophisticated designs. You don’t have to be cold to look dope.
