As Karl Lagerfeld spent part of his childhood on a farm, it seems only fitting that the Chanel built a version of a Marie Antoinette’s barnyard in the Grand Palais to present his Spring Summer 2010 collection.
Named after a Victorian euphemism for a woman’s skill in the bedroom, designers Nikki Dekker and Maayan Zilberman have created intimates that balance provocation and humor, intelligence and sensuality with their The Lake & Stars label.
The collections showcase the creative duo’s strong, classic, sexy aesthetics and the new Spring/Summer lookbook 2010, shot by New York based Tom Hines, completes the feminine and sensual look with a little hint of danger.
Self-taught Argentina based fashion photographer Antonella Arismendi has so much fantastic work that is hard to edit it down to just one post. She is inspired spirituality, new world order, 2012 and astrology – which comes across in many of her works.
During the last five years her work has been featured in magazines such as D, Catalogue, Rolling Stone, Vnfold and Soko Zine.
Here is a small taste of Arismendi’s extensive portfolio:
Magnus Unnar shoots Anouck Lepere (Belgium model and Jefferson Hack’s fiance) for the October 2009 issue of Dazed and Confused. The shoot is raw and energetic and depicts Anouck playing the role of a lowly intern at a modeling agency. Stylist Joanna Schlenzka seems to love messy backgrounds, muted tones and naughty onesies – and its a winning combination!
As a digital media artist based in Germany, the portfolio work of Jann de Vries is extensive, but it is his deconstructed collage works that particularly stand out. He takes existing photos from various fashion journals and magazines to create a new reality, hence the name Wirklichkeit, translated as Reality. This should entice you to check out the rest of his portfolio.
I was introduced to this Luxirare recently and have had a great time exploring the range of creativity present on the beautifully curated site. I can not really imagine a marriage of two more fitting things than fashion and food and to see them served up in this way brings light to my world. Featured here is an outfit created by the faceless gal behind Luxirare. She created this mesh two-piece ensemble to compliment the Margiela jacket, shown here as well, as a result of having nothing suiting to wear it with. Not a bad spurt of creativity if you ask me. I have only highlighted one of her garments but you should not miss Luxirare’s Michael Jackson Memoribilia as well as other pieces you can see on the site.
As for the Gastronomic goodness I have highlighted a range of Luxirare’s edible goods to give you a better idea of the entire aesthetic.
Vanessa Bruno transports us to a beautiful, whimsical world with Jane Birkin’s daughter Lou Doillon for her Spring Summer 2009 campaign. The photo shoot and film (made by Mark Borthwick), is as ethereal, serene and feminine as the collection.
Look who’s up to his old tricks again, gallivanting around with beautiful naked women. The soon-to-be married Terry Richardson does not shy away from the stunning Eniko Mihalik, Freja Beha, Magdalena Frackowiak, and Abbey Lee Kershaw during the shoot for Purple Fashion Magazine Fall/Winter 2009 (styled by Christopher Niquet).
House of Holland T-shirt design
London based illustrator and stylist Sophie Stephens has a humorous and unique take on today’s fashion and celebrities and no one is spared. Her t-shirts for House of Holland feature illustrations of Brit darling Alexa Chung complete with pumpkin, the witch hat and ivy, Terry Richardson covering himself with a prickly cactus, and Luella, looking rather provocative with arms up and bare chest. Even her final year guerilla art campaign project, entitled ‘Style makes me Sick’ pushed the boundaries. Stephens infiltrated Topshop changing rooms everyday with illustration saying “No More Heroes”, challenging what we think is fashionable and making us rethink how we put celebrities on pedestals. She is a force to be reckoned with! Stephens has done work for various magazines including Love, Fact and Know Magazine, and collaborated with Julian and Noel from The Mighty Boosh to make flyer. Her thoughts, work and ideas can be seen on her blog: http://blackpendiaries.blogspot.com/.
Band of Outsiders 2009 Fall/Winter Collection Lookbook was shot by designer Scott Sternberg (who recently tied with Calvin Klein’s Italo Zucchelli as the CFDA’s menswear designer of the year) with a sun drenched iconic Polaroid-aesthetic. Sternberg took indie pin-up boy Jason Schwartzman to Chinatown in LA, and the filmic style of the shoot works perfectly with a collection that was inspired by the young idealists from the 1967 film Le Chinois by Jean-Luc Godard. Sternberg has a knack for pouring big names into the smallish pieces that make up his collection; most notably Kirsten Dunst, Marisa Tomei and Sarah Silverman for his Boy by Band of Outsiders women’s line.
