New Japan Streetwear Label, Base Control Fall / Winter 2008 Collection
The latest editorial from Italian Vogue with Aline Weber photographed by Greg Kadel plays with the ideals of androgyny, femininity, and the punk aesthetic. The tailored clothing, sharp bangs and makeup on the model are offset by feminine backdrops of gardens and charming vintage chairs. I must say bravo Italian Vogue keep putting out such inspiring editorials! More here.
Meet the new Nike Blazer High Premium Wood. Check the authentic wood design on the midsole, toebox and heel. The upper is black leather with a silver swoosh juxtaposed by red stitching. Due to release October 4th.

Breaking the monotony of the G-Shock revolution in the US, Toy Watch is making a hit with these florescent time pieces. These Italian range watches, ironically dubbed the “Toy Watch” has many more collections within the family name but the FLUO and NEWSTYLE lines look mighty fine. See the entire line here.

This will make for some fun polaroid pics! Moustaches are perhaps the new animal masks in fashion photography?
While Kuyichi first focus on style, evident in the great range of skinny jeans in purple and green, they are equally passionate about the way their clothes are created - organic cotton and fair trade.
If you live in the New England area Fall means one thing, rain. Granted there is gorgeous weather throughout but there is lots and lots of rain. Thankfully we have an array of stylish wellingtons “wellies” for you to brave the fall downpours in, stylishly of course. Here are our favorites!
These 3 ads were made by TBWA Paris and photographed by Vincent Fournier. I only show you these because of the imagery and the wool clothing. Maybe the art or creative director has a wool fetish.
Increasing amounts of luxury brands are beginning to explore the opportunities associated with online video. Tommy Hilfiger has launched TommyTV, Cartier has launched a series of short films with French filmmaker Olivier Dahan, Belvedere Vodka launched their Let It Rain campaign, with a clear intent for its provocative tone to make it viral.
The two best examples so far; Prada’s Trembled Blossoms, and now the surprisingly provocative Sergio Rossi viral from the Shoe Love series.
Here is Sergio Rossi - Shoe Love :

Our Legacy has been around for the past two years, but unfortunately it is super rare to find in the US. You can see their Spring 08 collection on their website, beautiful cuts and details. Our Legacy is a kind of Scandinavian minimalism that is very hot right now worldwide.
We’ve been talking about it for a while and as we told you 3 months ago the floral prints are now ON !
The Balenciaga Ads speak for themselves, floral, bold and powerful; these dresses are for not woman without a strong personal-identity.
Society for Rational Dress, notably one of the best brands to come out of LA in the past 3 years has been able to maintain its integrity and aesthetic since designer Corinne Grassini’s launched in 2005. After studying pattern making at Central Saint Martins in London Grassini moved to LA to start her brand, which initially consisted of leather shoes, than bags, and now a full collection of well tailored but simultaneously flowy and unrestrictive clothing dressed with thick leather trims and heavy duty hardware. Here is a sneak peak at her Spring 08 Collection. For full preview and access to archive of collections visit Society for Rational Dress.
Fashion web Magazine ( a Print version is also available but rare to find ) The Blow Up has a lot to watch on their website…

I couldn’t resist bringing up this photo from the Spellbound editorial out of V mag’s November 07 issue. The Styling is absolutely phenomenal in this shot and I dont think I have ever seen a more fabulous coat. Few words can measure the greatness of this shot so I’ll leave it to the viewers to indulge.
Coat by Giorgio Armani, boots by Marjan Pejoski
Womens’ design category winners Alexander Wang, Elise Overland, Lyell’s Emma Fletcher and Michael Kresse, Reyes’ José Ramón Reyes, Wayne by Wayne D. Lee.
Mens ‘ category winners Alexander Galan, Oliver Helden, Paul Marlow, Matthew Sandager, and Melissa Vail of Loden Dager. Read the full story
Above is the new Georgio Armani cell phone ad. Agyness Deyn is the model in the picture, but doesn’t she look alot like Christy Turlington? She looks great, but she also looks ten years older. Amazing what makeup can do, since Agyness Deyn looks nothing like herself in the ads.
Ad season is coming up, and I’m excited to see some beautiful fashion campaigns. Quick update, M.I.A. is the face for Marc for Marc Jacobs and Olga Sherer is the model for the Lanvin ads.
Check out Alexandre Duret-Lutz, a Paris-born photographer who uses his Pentax K10 to focus on spherical panoramas and Escheresque spirals. His photos have got a beautiful, mathematical style to them, ( not that i’ve figured out the equation though!) and each time I look at them, my eye finds something it did not see the first time around.
Philips is going through a complete makeover. I used to think Philips was just another t.v. company, but you must visit their Design Probes Project, the aim of understanding lifestyle post 2020. One of their cool projects ( in addition to projects concerning tattoos and jewelry) is called Skin: Dresses “which examines the future integration of sensitive materials in the area of emotional sensing – the shift from ‘ intelligent’ to ‘sensitive’ products and technologies.” These Bubelle dresses are composed of two layers, the inner layer has biometric sensors that pick up a person’s emotions and projects them in colors onto the second layer, the outer textile. The dress also changes color according to our emotional state. Like a mood ring, but a mood dress.
The shift from intelligent to sensitive…really interesting concepts they are playing with at Philips. Yes, the way we dress is first and foremost dictated by our mood and Philips is taking our emotive dressing to a future level. Susie Bubble ( whom I adore for her camera-in-her-face-as-she-styles-outfits-btw Happy Birthday Susie!!!) asks “Do I want everybody in the world watching me feel either elation, embarrassment, anger or attraction as I swan around in this Bubelle dress on the streets…”
I agree with her, I definitely don’t need the world to know how moody I really am, BUT conceptually I love what Philips is doing to blend fashion and technology, an area that we are seeing merge more and more.
Today begins the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute blog discussions of some 40 acquisitions titled ” Blog.mode: Addressing Fashion.” Each piece has some artistic or historical relevance to fashion, and is something of a crash course in fashion history. This public dialogue is a great concept, because those who are fearful to comment on artwork are not at all afraid to disclose their thoughts on fashion, thus taking fashions’ need to judge and be judged into a way of engaging public discourse with the museum experience.
Lover is brand out of Australia… I love the clean and simple collection they designed for SS08,

Its been a year and a half since he dressed the graduating runway for CSM with the freshest looks I have seen in years. Something truly new. Something with an undeniably deep inspiration and someone with an instinct that fashion eyes are keeping close tabs on. With only 3 seasons under his belt, Christopher Kane has made it very clear that he is one of the leading designers of our generation, at only 24 years old. Introducing himself with his deliciously colored 90’s inspired bondage dresses, finished with an impeccable attention to detail for Spring 07, he had me in awe. Where would he go next, how would he translate this aesthetic into the next season, and there came Fall 2007, another shocker! Not what I expected but so sexy and exciting still. The combinations of fabrics included leather, velvet, metallic details and over-sized gemstones with a Victorian inspiration; still a feeling of that 90’s nostalgia. It was flirty, but serious and sophisticated. And now here we are for Spring 08 with yet another beautifully calculated collection and yet another surprise. Using snake skin printed chiffon frou frou juxtaposed with tattered denims he was able to continuously portray this super sexy, feminine but dangerous woman. This change of track that he has taken his bystanders on has been able to maintain one constant factor of the equation, the Christopher Kaness of it all. Its so early in his career to say something like this but his range of exploration has proven that his name will only continue to grow and influence the future and history of fashion.
You’ve got to check out top shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey, who learned his trade with Jimmy Choo. ( Fashion runs in his family, his cousin Stuart Vevers won the Accessory Designer of the Year at the 2006 British Fashion Awards.) The shoes have a kind of polish and sophistication that I enjoy but with a rock ‘n’ roll edge that any age group will lust over.
They are available now at Saks 5th Avenue.
Marni asked children from Columbia, Tibet, India, Guatamala and Brazil to capture what they say in the mirror. Of the 7,000 drawings they received, the fashion house chose 6 self-portraits to be printed on mens’ and womens’ shirts, available now at Marni’s Virtual Boutique. The proceeds of the T-shirt sales will be distributed between the schools who participated in the initiative. At $120 a shirt, it’s the most affordable item you’re gonna find at Marni!
