Materials and surface are the focal points of Judith Seng’s recent work and the pieces showing at The Dock during the London Design Festival are certainly indicative of this.
The perfectly smooth and glossy surface areas of Seng’s pieces are deliberately marred by cracks, which then harmonize with the worked textures of the pieces.
Colors and geometric shapes are the main theme of this amazingly cool cafeteria designed by Tobias Rehberger in collaboration with Finnish furniture Artek – He actually won the Golden Lion as best artist at the 53rd International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, for the “Cafeteria of the Palazzo delle Exposizioni della Biennale ” – More Info : www.artek.fi/projects/fairs/57

Swiss furniture manufacturer Horgenglarus was awarded the Best Scenario prize at the recently held Designers’ Saturday show in Langenthal, Switzerland. The numerous descending lighting fixtures resembles the fallen leaves which give way to a poetic crunch once in contact with another object. The installation looks as fragile as the leaves themselves. Well played.

Marcio Kogan, a 56 year old Brazilian architect strikes once again, designing a very compelling landmark in Brazil. As you can follow with the images below, he has a very good aesthetic eye for composition, materials and proportion.
