Yohji Yamamotos flagship is the latest store to hit Paris’ notorious Rue Cambon. Designed by Sophie Hicks, an architect and former stylist for Alaia, it carries both women’s and men’s collections. Special wood paneling lines the entrance, while seamless mannequins give the illusion of clothes hanging in the air. It’s a serene, luxurious environment with metal rails for the collections, and Japanese paper birds adding to the installation-like display. Part gallery, part Japanese inn, the flagship is spread over three levels and it reflects Yohji’s signature concept: The White Box. – via Dazed Digital

I love the way the clothes are displayed within the space leaving the visitor/shopper a clear path of navigation and enough individual space to reflect on each design.

squcimg20541 Edible Tableware : Japanese Design

Japanese designer Nobuhiko Arikawa of Rice-Design has created edible tableware for Orto Cafe in Japan. The plates, bowls and chopsticks are intended to replace disposable paper tableware. The pieces are made from hardtack, a biscuit dough made from flour, water and salt which was traditionally used as dry emergency rations at sea. The biscuits will last for months as long as they are kept dry. The pieces have been put into production by Koratt bakery and cafe, and will be exhibited at Designing10 in Fukuoka, Japan, from 25th to 29th April. – article from De Zeen.
