The Very Best: Rain Dance (feat MIA)

The three members of The Very Best hail from Sweden, France and Africa. As one would expect, their sound has a global diversity to it. Warm Heart of Africa, their second album, was released in September of 2009 and features collaborations with MIA and Ezra Koenig. Their infectious music is picking up a lot of recognition here in the states.

I spoke with Owner Shawn Kaleka about Costume Dept. and the new foray into a full-fledged collection.

The smokey-eyed Beau Brummel explains that the fabulous fit can only be attributed to fashion designer ingenue, Shaun Sampson who works under the guidance of greats like Jeremy Scott while completing his study at St. Martin in London.

To know Sampson’s innate talent for draping a woman (or man) is as easy as slipping into a pair of his Ziggy Stardust creations. Uh yeah, i haven’t taken mine off since scoring the gems at a trunk show.

Back to the new line at hand, super-long fringe, androgynous puns and Islamic cultural cues combine in a goth kaleidoscope that’s anything but depressing. The insightful design choices will woo the most daring of boys and girls.

Humberto and Carol of Opening Ceremony keep us on our toes. This is one of the leading teams in innovation and evolution of our industry. Using their east/west coast shops as platforms for showcasing new concepts and projects each season, these two continue to inspire the boundaries. As the weekly contributors of For The Moment, the OC (ooo that abreviation does not have the best connotation, but you get it) duo are delivering their latest news.

Humberto and Carol feel strongly that sports and music go hand-in-hand, so they decided to ask some of their favorite musicians to give them an inspirational lyric that gets them pumped-up and ready for any competition. These lyrics will be screened onto a limited number of T-shirts and available, starting on the 8th (upon the commencement of the Olympics), at their stores. Above is the new Georgio Armani cell phone ad. Agyness Deyn is the model in the picture, but doesn’t she look alot like Christy Turlington? She looks great, but she also looks ten years older. Amazing what makeup can do, since Agyness Deyn looks nothing like herself in the ads.

Ad season is coming up, and I’m excited to see some beautiful fashion campaigns. Quick update, M.I.A. is the face for Marc for Marc Jacobs and Olga Sherer is the model for the Lanvin ads.
