Woodpigeon : Piano Pieces for Adult Beginners

woodpigeon treasury library Song of the Day : [03/09]

Canadian group/ensemble Woodpigeon has just release their double album, “The Treasury Canada/ C/W Houndstooth Europa”, and just returned from their Eurotour. It must be hard in this group of seven to come up with song names since all of them are practically sentences. I guess everyone has to get a word in. :) Anyway you definitely have to check out this album, its pretty melo but has these great moments of epiphany, transporting you directly to cloud nine.

Beirut : My Wife Lost in the Wild

realpeople Song of the Day: [1/29]

Beirut released its third album this week, a double EP split between ‘March of the Zapotech’, which follows the orchestral band’s traditional sound as it mixes with Latin – in particular, Oaxacan – influences. But its the second half, the ‘Holland EP,’ where things get interesting. Recording under the name “RealPeople”, Zach Condon’s band incorporates electronic sounds and follows in the pretty paths of Portishead and Hot Chip. You can find the opening track “My Night with a Prostitute from Marseilles” around the internet, and I recommend doing so, but here I offer the stunning “My Wife Lost in the Wild”.

andrew bird noble beast Song of the Day : [01/21]

Yesterday was the release of Andrew Bird’s Noble Beast on Fat Possum Records. The self-produced album consists of 14 original songs recorded primarily at the Beech House in Nashville, with additional recording taking place at various Chicago and Minneapolis locations over a period of five months. As usual, Bird handles violin, vocals, whistling and guitar, with back-up from live cohorts Martin Dosh (percussion, looping, keys), Jeremy Ylvisaker (guitar, bass, organ, shortwave) and more recently Mike Lewis, plus a supporting cast including Kelly Hogan, Todd Sickafoose, and the band Loney Dear.
